Title: Dragons Need Love, Too
Series: I Like Big Dragons Series #2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: October 19, 2016
Nikolai Vassago has a plan.
His day starts out fairly normal. Get up, kick some ass, fondle his beard, take some names.
One second he’s participating in a normal every day mission, and the next he’s saving the one woman that fate has promised him for the rest of his life from the grips of a criminal mastermind.
Nikolai can’t say he’s altogether displeased with what he’s given, though. Not with that gorgeous brunette that would soon be warming his bed.
The same can’t be said for Brooklyn.
Living in a commune most of her life meant she wasn’t exposed to all of life’s craziness. The moment she turned eighteen, she was off and running, experiencing all of what life had to give.
That means she sometimes jumps in feet first, not thinking about consequences until the deed is already done.
Nikolai rescues her from a fate worse than hell, throwing her on the back of his dragon and flying off into the night.
He’s a go-with-the-flow kind of man. Brooklyn, however, is not.
Having been caged for the first eighteen years of her life, she wants nothing more than to be free to do what she pleases, consequences be damned.
Nikolai, however, has different ideas, and he’s not above using his masculine will to prove to her that she’s exactly where she needs to be.

Title: Charlie's Whiskey
Series: A Chosen Series Novel
Author: Harlow Brown
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: January 13, 2017
Charlie Winstead pushes aside the pain and anguish she suffers daily and puts all her energy into her women's softball team, the Regulators. If only temporarily, the abuse bestowed upon her by her boyfriend halts for the time that she is behind the plate. Hensley has been her boyfriend for three years and the relationship progressed into a domestic nightmare. Realizing this, Charlie does what she needs to do to protect herself. Whiskey Williams is a patched member of the Chosen Legion motorcycle club. He finds himself running from a dark and dirty past, looking for a new start. He relies on his brothers from the mother charter to help him. Once he arrives in Rudy, he sees Charlie and knows something has to be done to help her. However, seeing as she is fresh out of her abusive relationship, she wants nothing to do with men. Will the attraction between the two be enough to make Charlie give the troubled biker a chance? Or will he strike out? The game of love is not as easy as three up, three down.
My cell phone started ringing. I didn’t want to wake up Jazz and Briar, so I answered it hurriedly without even looking at the caller ID. “Hello?” I whispered.
“Did you miss me last night?” Hensley said with a cocky chuckle.
My heart stopped and my breath caught in my throat. He continued. “I think the shoulder will be just fine, but you are going to pay for it, you worthless bitch.”
All that was going through my mind at that point was the memories of what I had been through and the promises I had just made myself. Suddenly, all the fear left me, only to be replaced with hatred and loathing for the monster on the other end of the line. Being quiet so I didn’t wake the sleeping couple down the hall was low on my priority list at that very moment.
“Listen to me, you sorry sack of horseshit. I have more than paid for that little shoulder graze. You put me through hell, you broke my spirit and soul, and you’ve scarred my body so that I’ll never be able to forget you. Every time I see my goddamned ankles, I’ll be reminded of you and the sick ways you got your rocks off. I told you last night that I was done, and I fucking meant it. I won't be the weak, scared person you turned me into for another minute. Charlie is back, the Charlie I thought you loved, the one I assumed you wanted. I am back and taking no shit from anyone, especially you. I am bringing me back, the funny, witty, happy Charlie. If you think you’ll get another day of my happiness, you are sadly mistaken.”
Rage fueled the comments that followed as I kept going. “How’d it feel, huh? How’d it feel to hold down a little woman who physically couldn’t fight you off and beat her like a dog? Do you feel more like a man because you took down a person who is a foot shorter than you and a hundred and twenty-five pounds lighter? I hope you got what you needed from it because you won't get a chance to do it again. You are nothing to me anymore. I’m better than you, and I can't believe I let you use me for three years.”
My chest was heaving. I had to catch my breath and gather my wits. Unfortunately, that gave the bastard a chance to speak.
“Charlie, you are damaged goods. No man will ever want you now. You’re all scarred up and that screams you’re a pushover, nothing more than a weak girl.”
“Listen here, you son of a bitch. I don’t need a man, so I don't care if anyone wants me. I’d rather be alone than with somebody like you ever again. The scars you gave me serve as a reminder that I am not that girl anymore. I don’t need to have a man to survive and be happy. I’m done talking to you. Don’t ev—”
“You listen here, Char. You are mine. You know it, and I know it. Come home and we will work it out. I'll never lay another unwanted hand on you, baby, I swear.”
I started screaming at him. “You dumb bastard. I fell for that shit for three years. You couldn’t tell the truth if you tried. Just answer this. Did you ever love me? Was it ever anything more than a conquest for you? How could you? Why did you break my heart?”
I had woken Jazz and Briar at that point. Sadly, I didn’t care. "I loved you. Still do. Why can't you see that?”
His answer kind of shocked me. “Mainly because you hit me and raped me. Or was that why you loved me? You didn’t think another woman would put up with you and your perverted antics. I was the stupid girl who stayed out of fear. Fear of not ever finding anyone else, fear that if I tried you would beat me worse, or go after my friends. Or being held down and fucked with no say so, only to get my ass whipped for crying about it, or crying when the punches or the lashes from the belt bit into my skin and blood seeped down my torso. Let's not forget the times that you ended up cutting me with God knows what. Fuck you, Hensley. Find yourself another girl. We are done. I am not coming back, and I am most certainly not yours. It’s just you and your hand, darlin’. Do yourself a favor and don’t be as rough with yourself as you were with me, because I'm telling you from experience that it fucking hurts. That is the last thing I have to say to you.”
I am a debut author, but most importantly, I am a mother of two beautiful kids. I am a wife to my soul mate and my better half, whom I was lucky enough to find when I was a child. Since the age of 15, we have been together, and there isn't a moment that I regret. They say everyone has their person; I was lucky enough to find mine when I was just a kid. He and my children are my everything. They are my reason for existence. I love to read, write, play softball, watch baseball, and help coach my daughter's softball team, and watch my son play his sports. We are always on the go, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I realize that one day there won't be anyone to take to practice and games. I embrace the utter chaos that is our lives right now because it will be over before we know it. I appreciate every single one of you that are reading this right now. There is one motto that I live by. It just sucks that it took losing someone really close to me to realize the truth about it. Don't Look Back.

If she did that in real life she’d probably end up in prison or a psych ward so she prefers to create dirty talking alphas and the sexually frustrated women who fall into their beds. And if someone needs to be smacked upside the head before f*cking turns to love then that makes her very happy indeed.
She’s a huge believer in flaws making us human, and that not everyone likes bacon. She’s also addicted to chocolate and scared of the effects of the coming shortage. She swears like a f*cking trooper, and thinks that graphic smuttiness should be as real in fiction as it is in real life.

Title: Deadly Omissions
Series: The Deceptive Lovers Series
Author: Lauren Reign
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: December 9, 2016
Harper Sloan is a warrior. She’s survived the childhood from hell and clawed her way out on her own. But no amount of life experience could have prepared her for the heartache Colton would bring. He was the best man she’d ever dated, until he shattered that flawless image with his unthinkable deception. Colton is a liar, but so is Harper. And now her own secrets may have deadly consequences. FBI agent Colton Brady made a choice. He faked his death, going undercover to save his best friend's life from a serial killer, but it cost him the woman he loves. When he learns Harper is involved with a dangerous loan shark, he forces his way back into her life. Harper may hate him, but there is no line Colton won't cross to protect her.
It has seriously not been my night.
Tapped That, the kickass bar I’ve worked at since graduating from the University of Tampa that happens to be owned by my friend Kalliope, was completely slammed tonight. I had the pleasure of serving a bunch of frat douchebags for hours who wanted mojitos, a wimp drink that is a total bitch to make, and a group of older cougars who wanted frozen run runners, another pain-in-my-ass cocktail.
I am a fantastic bartender, but my blender skills aren’t up to par, hence why I’m currently very sticky and in desperate need of a good scrub down. I was looking forward to a warm shower until my 1990 Civic decided to spit at me a few times, squeal, then not turn over.
“Trouble?”
Goosebumps pebble down my arms at his voice. I don’t have to lift my head to know who’s invaded my pity party. It’s the same voice that haunts my daydreams.
“No, I’m just perfect,” I respond into my dashboard, my tone drips with sarcasm.
“Get out of the car, Harper.”
“Go away, Colton.”
A chilly breeze travels across my body as my car door is flung open, but I still don’t move. I don’t have the energy, nor do I want to deal with him tonight. I can feel his presence beside me, a static tingling that invades my being anytime he is near.
I used to love the sensation. Now I loathe it.
This gorgeous man used to be linked to my heart, until he got shot on assignment eight months ago and decided that faking his death and devastating many who loved him for four months to hunt down a serial killer that was obsessed with our friend Kalli was a good idea.
Sounds crazy, right? Yeah, he turned me inside out with his unthinkable deception.
Colton’s estranged twin brother, Jaxxon, who I had never met and who was also an FBI agent, was assigned by the Bureau to keep Kalli alive after she was kidnapped and almost killed by Dominic Hall the same night that he shot Colton. Dominic had evaded their capture that fateful night, which is why Colton went undercover. I later learned that Dominic was fixated on Kalli because she scarily resembled his wife, who had been killed years prior in a drunk-driving accident.
Jaxxon kept Kalli, who also thought Colton was dead, safe for months, and they eventually fought their way to each other. They fell in love and are now having a baby together.
I, on the other hand, got destroyed and was left with a big F-you.

A bottle I wouldn't dare try and live without. This was my life. A life I loathed.
A life that may seem perfect on the outside, filled with money and fame - but it wasn't perfect to me.
After losing my world that meant everything to me; I need to find my way back to the living.
I'm not sure I even want to. I don't think I would survive any more pain.
It may seem weak, but it's easier being numb.
“Another awesome read by one of my favourite new authors. Numb is a novella that can be read before or after the rest of the series.” - Reader Review “Numb flows so perfectly into Cut and is a MUST READ!!” - Reader Review
From the earliest age I was a born storyteller.
Ask my parents and they will tell you I had a gift for making a simple event seem like an elaborate one. Purposely? No. Innocently? Yes. It was my imaginary world that initially led me to believe I wanted to be an actor. All of that role playing and living in fantasy... it was an obvious direction for me. However, becoming quite uncomfortable with the limelight quickly saw that dream diminish.
Over the years I turned my world of fantasy into stories, and eventually began writing them down. Before I knew it, 'Cut' had been completed.
When I am not busy writing my next story, I am a working mum, housewife and sometimes hockey wag :) In other words, probably some kind of circus act who specialises in juggling ;)
I hope you enjoy my blog, where I will be posting thoughts, other books I am currently reading and even sneak peeks of my novels. I encourage any feedback, comments or direct messages via my contact page should anyone wish to get in touch.
I am so thrilled to be sharing my journey and hope you enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them.
Dream often. Believe always.

It was a short, restless sleep for Eliza. When she awoke, she quickly freshened up and ran to the hospital to find out if there was any news. She was informed that their worst nightmares were now reality: The Japanese had arrived to destroy her paradise.
That morning, the first bombs had fallen at Camp John Hay near Baguio, the town where Eliza and Reese had shared their romantic weekend together. Baguio was a perfect target because it was the most important military and commercial center in Northern Luzon. The Japanese bombers then arrived at the main base of the Army Air Corps in the Western Pacific, Clark Air Field, and Fort Stotsenberg.
In some sort of failed communication, the Americans had been grossly unprepared and were caught completely unaware. Most were enjoying lunch when the Japanese were able to arrive undetected and launch a deadly and destructive attack. Scores of American fighter and bomber aircrafts were lined up wingtip to wingtip. The planes were fully armed but completely unmanned. Bomb after bomb was dropped. Some of the soldiers tried to make it to their planes. Others were shooting at the Japanese aircraft with old, antiquated firearms that were useless against the skilled, sleek attacker. In the end there were only seven planes that had not been destroyed. The once beautiful area was a burning mess of mangled, twisted aircraft.
Eliza and the other nurses at Sternberg Hospital couldnât believe the horror stories flooding in. People began to speculate about whether Manila would be attacked as well. Of course, some had tried to reassure that the capital would be safe although no one seemed to be very confident in their assurances.
Shortly thereafter, a messenger came in and said that an invasion force under the command of General Masaharu Homma had been spotted and they were planning to launch a ground attack. The entire group was issued helmets and gas masks, as the Japanese were known for using a variety of poison gases in combat. Eliza was handed a pamphlet to accompany her gas mask that detailed ways to detect poisonous gasses and how to care for patients exposed to them. The group of nurses was told that a decontamination area was being set up in one of the wards. Elizaâs eyes widened at the thought of poison mustard gas. If it werenât so very real she would almost laugh at the expectation to learn how to detect these gasses and care for exposed patients from a simple brochure. I guess this is war now; time to think on the fly.
An hour or so later, a young Filipino boy approached Eliza with a note that informed her that Reese and Jimmy were going to be transported to Clark Air Field along with several other soldiers. They were headed straight into the war zone! Eliza stared at the words on the note and looked down at the strange contraption in her hands, feeling the cold stab of fear go through her. Is this really happening?
That afternoon, the entire group of 35 doctors and 37 nurses stationed at Sternberg Hospital were called to meet with their commanding officers. They were informed that the attack at Fort Stotsenberg had been a complete disaster for the Americans. In the wake of the attack, there were dead and wounded soldiers and civilians everywhere. The medical staff at Fort Stotsenberg was so overwhelmed they had put in an urgent call to Sternberg to send help.
A commanding officer stated that the medical staff in Stotsenberg was
in desperate need for those with any surgical experience. He and Miss Davis had decided to send 5 Army nurses to Stotsenberg, and they wondered if there were any volunteers. The room went silent. The thought of all those people that lost their lives made Eliza queasy but she
knew there were scores of people needing help, too many for the doctors and nurses to care for without reinforcements. She could be closer to Reese in Stotsenberg than she would staying in Manila.
Eliza knew what she had to do. She raised her hand to volunteer with much more gusto than she was actually feeling. The next thing she knew she was packing up her helmet and gas mask and shuttled into the group of soldiers waiting for their transportation. She was able to find Reese and Jimmy and together they walked up the steps of the bus that was going to take them to war.

Title: Holiday House Swap
Author: Sarah Madison
Genre: M/M Romance
Reclusive writer Noah Kinley is facing a dilemma: how to confess to the world he’s really the author of a best-selling romance series. For years, his friend Julie has been the face of his brand, but she wants her life back now. Fast running out of ideas for his popular series, Noah wants to break out into other genres. Not that he’s writing much of anything at the moment anyway, thanks to paralyzing writer’s block. With his publisher breathing down his neck for the next installment, he hopes a change of scene will get his writer’s juices flowing again. Desperate enough to try anything, during the holidays Noah swaps his isolated cabin in the woods for a gentrified horse farm.
USAF Major Connor Harrison has chosen forced retirement over facing charges for an unauthorized mission to rescue a buddy from behind enemy lines. No one expects him home for the holidays, and he certainly didn’t anticipate finding a stranger in his house, much less Noah Kinley with his acid tongue and a wry sense of humor that pierces all of Connor’s defenses. Both men need to figure out what the next chapter in their lives will be—and whether it will include each other.
To his delight, a wall switch within arm’s length turned out to be for a sound system. He fiddled with the dial until he found a radio station playing Christmas music. He sank down into the bubbling water until just his toes and head were sticking out. Bing Crosby sang a rousing rendition of “Mele Kalikimaka.” Obviously another indication the station was getting desperate for different Christmas songs already. Then the playlist segued into one of many versions of “Santa Baby,” all of which Noah hated. Still, the sheer bliss of soaking in a steaming tub without having to cross a snow-covered porch to get there had him humming along when “The Twelve Days of Christmas” came on.
Noah had just belted out “five go-old rings” when he opened his eyes to see the bathroom door slowly swinging toward him. His jaw dropped in horror when he saw a soldier dressed in desert camo standing in the entranceway. The man had a 9mm in his hand and had used the barrel to open the door.
Noah couldn’t help it. He shrieked and flung the Kindle aside, ducking down into the Jacuzzi. It didn’t take him long to realize this wasn’t a workable escape plan, and he burst up out of the water, gasping for air. Blinking soapy water out of his eyes, he grasped the wine bottle by the neck and swung it overhead with the intent of throwing it.
To his surprise, while he’d been underwater, the soldier had holstered his gun. The man had also taken off his cap to reveal a shock of short brown hair practically sticking up on end. He was leaning against the sink with his arms folded across his chest. The overhead light made his eyes gleam like a cat’s, almost amber in color. His two-day stubble made him look like an extra from Miami Vice. Although he no longer acted as though he planned to shoot Noah, he gave off a dangerous vibe just the same.
“Calm down.” He was unimpressed by Noah’s defensive posture. “I’m guessing you’re not a burglar after all. Unless you’re the kind of thief who enjoys breaking into other people’s houses to take bubble baths.”
“I’m not a thief!” Fear sharpened into anger. “Your first clue should have been the Ford Fiesta sitting in the driveway. A real thief would drive something more impressive, like a black Hummer or something. The second tip-off should have been the fact there’s no evidence of a break-in, and the third should’ve been, I don’t know, perhaps my luggage sitting in the guest room?” Rage made his blood pressure go up like a rocket. “Whereas you came busting in here with a gun in your hand, so tell me, Lieutenant Soldier Man, why the hell I shouldn’t call the police right now?”
Noah noted his hand holding the wine was trembling, and he hastily set the bottle down. Awareness of his naked state, damp and only thinly covered by soap, made him ooze back down into the bubbles. He swept some toward him to cover strategic areas, all while glaring at the soldier.
“Well, I don’t know,” the military man drawled in a lazy manner that sent a little chill down Noah’s spine, even though he was hunkered down in the steaming water. “Maybe because I’m between you and the phone. Maybe because I still have a gun and you don’t. Or maybe—” The man pushed himself off the sink and took a step closer to the tub, pressing his fists into his hips as he leaned over to speak with emphasis. “Maybe because I live here.”
Noah gasped. “You do not!”
Sarah Madison is a writer with a little dog, a big dog, an even bigger horse, too many cats, and a very patient boyfriend. An amateur photographer and a former competitor in the horse sport known as eventing, when she's not out hiking with the dogs or down at the stables, she's at the laptop working on her next story. When she’s in the middle of a chapter, she relies on the smoke detector to tell her dinner is ready. She writes because it’s cheaper than therapy.
Sarah enjoys placing hot men in hot water to see how strong they are—like teabags, only sexier. This motto allows her to play in a wide variety of genres, from FBI guys to shifters, with some WW2 fighter pilots and space adventurers tossed in for good measure. “Deft plotting and a hair-raising finale elevate this pulse-pounding tale.”--Publishers Weekly “I loved this book.”—A Crazy Vermonter’s Book Reviews “A fun and entertaining story . . . I can’t wait to read more books in this series.”—Cocktails & Books “Hey,” I squealed, waving my hand in the air. I was so happy my brother would finally get to meet Jack. He walked toward me with a smile, but when he caught sight of Jack, that smile turned into an all-out heated glare. “What the fuck are you doing here?” he growled, quickening his pace. Jack froze and gripped my arm, grumbling, “Shit,” before pulling me around to face him. “Bristol, listen to me. This isn’t how I wanted you to find out.” Everything was happening so fast, I didn’t know what to think. “Find out what?” I asked desperately. Before he could reply, Ryan ripped me out of Jack’s hold and pushed him away. Jaw tense, Jack was ready to fight, but I couldn’t let that happen. “Ryan, stop!” I shouted, digging my nails in his shoulder. Jerking his head around, he glared straight at me. “Do you even know who this cocksucker is? He’s playing you to get back at me.” I threw my hands in the air. “What the hell are you talking about? How do you even know him?” Jack’s eyes never left mine, the anguish on his face making me sicker by the second. I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like what came out of Ryan’s mouth. He scoffed incredulously and spat at Jack. “He’s Jaxon fucking Reed, the asshole on the team I’ve been telling you about. Don’t tell me you didn’t know?”Jack stepped forward, but then again, that wasn’t his name. It was Jaxon Reed.

âMason, MASON, MASON!â Skylar panicked.
âI know. Skylar, hold on tight. Iâm going to brake.â
âBut there are cars behind us.â
âWe have no choice. Donât worry. I got this.â Mason pushed down on the brake forcefully. The car hydroplaned to the right. âHold on.â
Skylar gripped the first thing her hand found. The water from the road jetted up into the air like in a water show, but the car kept gliding sideways, until finally it spun in a full circle and stopped. With no time to waste, Mason turned it to the right and accelerated, hoping to dodge what was coming toward them.
Out of nowhere, a long piece of ice, taking the form of a spear, darted through the trucksâ tires and punctured some of them. More ice spears came soaring out of the rain, but this time ten or more sphere-like ice balls followed, denting the sides of the trucks. One went through a windshield. With flat tires, the trucks now glided as if skating on ice, maneuvering from side to side.
âDid you do that?â Skylar asked excitedly.
âNo. Must be Poseidonâs kids. Where the hell are they?â Mason spread his right arm out in front of Skylar as if to protect her. âBend down, Sky.â
One of the trucks hit another and veered off, hitting yet another one. The crash caused the trucks to flip and tumble, heading straight for Masonâs car. With a look of shock, Skylar held her breath. There was no time to move, think, or get out of the car, so she closed her eyes and prepared for the crash.
Seconds before impact, Masonâs car flew up into the air and over the trucks. Somehow, as if by magic, the water created a liquid bridge, guiding the car safely over, and then it thumped hard onto the ground on the other side. Without looking back, Mason sped away as the sound of screeching brakes and metal hitting metal blasted behind them.
âWhat just happened?â Skylar yelped. âDid you do that?â Everything had happened so fast. Adrenaline had rushed through her body so rapidly, sheâd had no time for fear. Once it was over, she was amazed and stunned speechless.
âNo, I didnât. Poseidonâs kids. Itâs the only explanation. They can manipulate water. I had it handled. There was no need for them to show off. Lots of civilians are hurt.â Mason sounded irritated, perhaps because he wasnât the hero this time around or perhaps he truly did care for those people he didnât know.
Amazed by their abilities, wherever they were, Skylar was grateful for their showing off. Though Mason claimed heâd had the situation handled, Skylar thought otherwise, but kept her opinion to herself.
Fire and heavy smoke spiraled into the sky behind them. The trucks had mostly slammed against each other, except for one. Guilt consumed her, thinking about the innocent people whoâd happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She couldnât dwell on her remorse. She saw the same white truck, now joined by a black truck, tailing them. âItâs the white truck again, but thereâs another one behind it.â
âI see them,â Mason said with a sly tone, looking in the rearview mirror. âLetâs see if they can follow.â

Lance Holder lives life the way he wants and makes no apologies, regardless of what anyone thinks. All everyone sees is the tattooed, motorcycle riding, reckless movie star, preventing anyone from looking beneath the surface. And that’s just the way Lance likes it.
Brea Richards is America’s sweetheart. She’s spent years honing her current reputation as one of the leading stars of a prime time television show. It’s a long way from her humble beginnings, but no one knows she’s lived worse than most people see in a lifetime.
Thrown together when Lance joins the cast of Brea’s show, everyone is watching to see if America’s bad boy will influence the sweetheart. But Lance seems to be one of the only ones to see beyond her current façade of pretending to be something she’s not. When a blast from the past sends Brea right back to the place she swore she’d never go again, maybe America’s bad boy is just what America’s sweetheart needs…
That wasn’t so bad,” Lance said as they walked in the green room following the conference. The others had scattered soon after, but Brea had followed him to express her displeasure. She simply stared at him; he had clearly been hit in the head if he thought that press conference went well.
Brea tried for calm but failed miserably. Her temper didn’t flair up often, but when it did she tended to lay waste to everything in her path. “Easy for you to say grabby hands,” she hissed. “And what the hell were you doing insinuating that we had a relationship?!”
“First of all, I wouldn’t have had to say shit if you didn’t try to eye fuck me on the way in.”
Brea narrowed her eyes, gritting her teeth so she didn’t rise to his bait. “I didn’t try to eye fuck you. And who says shit like that?”
He leaned in so close she could feel his breath, causing a tingle in the base of her spine. “The guy who you were about ten seconds away from pulling into a back room.” She pulled away, needing the distance, before glaring at him.
“And don’t touch me again without permission.”
He chewed on his bottom lip, looking her up and down like he knew exactly where he wanted to touch her. “What pisses you off more? The fact that I had to squeeze your leg to prevent you from spouting off at the mouth…or that you wanted me to squeeze much more than your leg?”
Her nostrils flared, from desire or anger she didn’t know. They say there’s a thin line between love and hate, and she never felt it more acutely than she did today, as though ever nerve ending was on fire. She didn’t know why this man did it for her, but he did.
“You are obnoxious as hell.” It was pretty weak as far as comebacks went, but she couldn’t think straight. All she wanted to do was feel, but she wasn’t about to give in to shit when it came to Lance.
“That all you got? You really are…nice.” When he said it like that it made it seem like she had the plague.
“One of us has to have manners,” she replied in a way that would have made Emily Post proud.
“Yeah, and one of us had to preserve your reputation in the media. Will they speculate about us? Yes. Did I play it off so they think there’s nothing serious about us? Yes. Just wait and see what they write about you, I guarantee you will be the victim of my evil clutches.” She shifted from side to side, knowing he was probably right. They would be much more forgiving of her, but if she said anything they would have circled like vultures around new prey. She should probably thank him for his foresight, but he had been such an ass about everything.
“And as far as the other stuff- the shit between you and me? You look at me like that again, and I guarantee we’ll be doing a lot more than playing grabby hands under the table.” And just like that, he walked away, slamming the door on the way out. She plopped down on the couch, trying to pretend like she didn’t want to call him back for more.
Raquel Adams is in desperate need of a media makeover. Her already floundering reputation is made worse by her recent antics, and she doesn’t seem to care. Raquel lives life on her own terms and doesn’t answer to anyone, least of all Clayton Cox, the guy charged with making her a media darling. His take charge attitude is a problem for strong-willed Raquel, but she can’t deny the attraction she feels toward him.
Clayton Cox is the boss, and damn good at his job. He’s hired to improve your reputation and does so by swooping in, saving the day, and moving onto the next one. But he can’t move one from his newest client. Raquel is maddening, and gorgeous enough to make him forget his rule of never getting involved with a client.
Raquel wants Clayton, and nothing is going to stand in her way, not even Clayton himself. He doesn’t know what hit him, and soon finds himself juggling between having to improve her reputation and feign off her advances. But Clayton’s determined to show Raquel who’s in charge at any cost, even if that means thwarting her seduction efforts. And will a series of mishaps mean Raquel is tied to her nickname forever?
“But that’s just the latest thing, the tip of the iceberg you’ve been creating for years. Shall we go through some of the other stuff?” Clayton clearly didn’t expect her to answer, because he picked up the magazines he’d brought from the desk and put them down in front of her. It was bad, but Raquel refused to hide despite how much she wanted to cringe. Rumors of hard partying, cocaine use—even though she had never used it—infidelity, orgies, stripping. And that was just the rumors. As a finale he had a list of the names she had acquired—bitch, whore, slut, jezebel, home wrecker, and her moniker, Man-Eater.
This is embarrassing, Raquel thought, seeing everything in black and white. It was something she hadn’t thought about; hell, half the time she cultivated it, but now she was left with regret. David was the final straw. He took her already fragile reputation and pummeled it to the ground. And what was his response when she asked him about it? “I just wanted a piece of the Man-Eater, but you didn’t even put out. Hope it was worth it.”
“That’s not all true,” she said. Great, Raquel, way to sound like an intelligent, self-assured woman.
He shook his head, looking at her as if she was crazy. “No one cares. I don’t know how many times I have to tell you that, but you need to get it through your thick skull. Your reputation is in the trash, and your job is on the rocks. You need me, which is why you called me. Because I am the best, and the only one who can repair your current reputation. You may not want to need me, but you do.”
Raquel reached for the pitcher full of water in the middle of the table, pouring a glass and taking a long drink, wishing it was tequila, while she composed herself. “What happens now?”
He raised his eyebrows, acknowledging that she ignored his statement. That was the best he was going to get from her, so he just needed to chill. “Right now? You are going to go the hell home and stay there. Don’t go out, because I can’t trust you to go anywhere. Even your local family restaurant isn’t safe when you’re around. Read over the contract,” he passed her a manila envelope that contained a bunch of paperwork, “carefully, because you are basically signing yourself over to me for the next six months. If you agree to the terms, then let me know and I will tell you where we go from here.”
She opened the folder, noticing how thick the contract was. “What is your strategy?”
“I’m not telling you before you agree. If you want it, you’ll sign it. And if, God forbid, anything else comes up, call me immediately.”
Clare Martin has spent the last ten years in the spotlight, becoming Hollywood’s It Girl. On the surface her life looks perfect, but in reality she’s faltering. And the last person she expects to provide any relief is her best friend’s brother, the man who’s been tying her in knots for months.
Alexander Richards has paid the price for every single mistake he’s made. He makes no excuses for what he’s done, and wants nothing more than to find some peace. But that may be impossible since he has to help the woman who’s been driving him crazy since he moved to California.
Thrown together in the middle of nowhere, there’s no way to deny the attraction that burns within them. But how can they build a future if they can’t address their own insecurities? And what happens when secrets and lies from the past threaten to pull them apart?
“Wait!” He caught up with her, kissing the back of his neck as they walked toward the shed. She angled her neck, allowing him greater access, while he nibbled his way up the side.
“What?” came out breathlessly, “are you saying you don’t want to go to the shed and get naked?”
He pressed into her, letting her feel just how much he wanted to get naked. He pressed his lips to her ear. “I think you know that’s not true. Are you sure we can go in that shed?” He wasn’t far off. It looked like a horror movie prop, where people ran when they were trying to escape a murderer only to find they’d discovered his workplace. The wood was a dull gray, worn almost white in spots. The circular window, centered at the top of the wood, had a hole that had never been repaired. One of the doors stood proud, while the other was falling off the hinge. A couple of the boards looked loose, and he ventured to guess that he could push it over with a couple of good kicks. “That’s not what I pictured for the first time.”
“Ohh, the first time,” she wiggled until he let her go so she could face him. “Who knew you were such a romantic?” It suddenly became a lot hotter, and he didn’t need a mirror to know his face was red.
“I’m not a romantic,” he grunted. “I just want to make sure I don’t get bit by any animals. Or murdered,” he muttered, when she laughed off his worries and ran toward it. The door creaked before she disappeared, calling for him to come on. He cursed under his breath, wondering whether any woman was worth following her into the dark, creepy shed. Who was he kidding? A hot, sexy woman wanted him, and all he had to do was meet her in the shed? He hot footed it lest she change her mind. He became enveloped in darkness, the only light the sliver from the broken door and mirror, and it was dusk outside.
“Clare, this shit is creepy. No amount of sex is worth dealing with this.” He screamed like a girl and jumped about ten feet when the fingers tapped him on the shoulder. He grabbed for her outline, lifting her as she continued to howl with laughter. “I’m gonna get your ass,” he promised. “And withhold whatever pleasure I would have given you.”

Author: Shanna Hatfield
Genre: Romance
Editor: Eliza Dee from Clio Editing
Blurb: Can forbidden love blossom amid the constraints of war?
The moment the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, life shifted for Miko Nishimura. Desperate to reach the Portland Assembly Center for Japanese Americans, sheâs kicked off the bus miles from town. Every tick of the clock pushes her closer to becoming a fugitive in the land of her birth. Exhausted, she stumbles to her grandparentsâ abandoned farm only to find a dying soldier sprawled across the step. Unable to leave him, she forsakes all else to keep him alive.
After crashing his plane in the Battle of the Atlantic, the doctors condemn Captain Rock Laroux to die. Determined to meet his maker beneath a blue sky at his family home, he sneaks out of the hospital. Weary and half out of his mind, he makes it as far as a produce stand he remembers from his youth. Rather than surrender to death, Rock fights a battle of the heart as he falls in love with the beautiful Japanese woman who saves his life.
A poignant, sweet romance, Garden of Her Heart proves love can bloom in unlikely places even under the most challenging circumstances.

âI thought I heard you calling for me,â Miko said, climbing down a ladder on the far end of the building with an arm full of berry crates.
Rock rushed to help her. By the time he threaded his way through the packed contents of the building, she was already on the floor.
âThatâs quite a car,â he said, taking half the berry crates from her and motioning to the convertible.
âThanks. I bought it when I was still gainfully employed,â she said, walking over to the car. âI fell in love with the color the first time I saw it and started saving my money to buy one. When the weatherâs nice, itâs fun to drive with the top down.â
Rock gaped at her. âItâs your car?â
Miko grinned. âIs that a hint of disbelief I hear, Captain? Not only is it my car, but I know how to change the tires, check the oil, and siphon gas out of my dadâs car when my brother, Tommy, borrows it and brings it back empty.â
He laughed, setting down the crates and wiping his hands along his trousers before touching the car. âIt is a beaut. Whatâs this color?â
âLaguna maroon. Papa calls it the luna moon mobile, but I still think itâs one of the prettiest colors out there.â Miko opened the driverâs side door and motioned for Rock to climb in.
He sank into the leather seat and inhaled the aroma as if it was the most expensive perfume.
âLike it?â Miko asked, bending down to better see his reaction to the car.
âYou bet!â He settled his hands on the steering wheel, forcing his injured fingers to curl around the wheel.
âIf you like the outside of the car, youâll probably be more impressed by the eight cylinders under the hood.â Miko released the hood latch and Rock slid out to study the engine.
He whistled and smirked at Miko. âWhatâs a girl like you doing with a car like this?â
âAnything I want,â she said with a sassy grin. âAt least it used to be that way.â
Rock sobered and closed the hood, using the hem of his T-shirt to wipe away the smudges made by his fingerprints.
âI didnât realize you had cars here. I was trying to figure out how to catch a ride on the bus into Portland.â
âBy all means, drive one of the cars wherever you need to go.â She pointed to her grandparentsâ sedan. âPapa and Mother must have sold their car or it would be here, too. Granddad wouldnât care if you take his.â She cast a taunting look his way. âOr, if you think you can handle it, youâre welcome to drive mine.â
His raised an eyebrow at her dare as he lifted the berry baskets and followed her out the door. âIs that an invitation or a challenge?â
âMaybe both.â She turned and sauntered away, casting a flirty smile at him over her shoulder.

All Arik wants is to make the artist his.
Can love create a masterpiece when it’s painted on your heart?
Chapter 1
The shrill ring of his phone should have startled him awake, but Kellus Hardin was just too damn tired to do much more than roll in the direction of the irritating sound and throw a hand out to half-ass search around his mattress for the device. When he came up empty handed, he managed to turn the other way and do the same. By the time his exhausted sleep-hazed brain identified the phone wasn’t anywhere around him, he heard the chirp indicating a voice mail. He cracked an eyelid and lifted his head enough to look over at the alarm clock. Four thirty in the morning. Seriously? Nothing good could come from a call that time of night. He collapsed back to the bed with an annoyed groan. He’d been asleep less than an hour after working the fifteen before on the pieces he had due for the art gallery opening.
“Fuck,” he growled out, turning over again. He tucked a soft pillow into his side and decided he’d deal with that call in the morning. His exhausted state gave a solid thumbs-up on the plan, and he easily drifted back to sleep. What had to be a mere second later, the ringing started again. Stupid cell phone.
Kellus threw the covers away from his body and darted off the bed, angrier than he’d been in a very long time. He was fucking tired—tired of his fucked-up life and tired of this motherfucker who wouldn’t leave him the fuck alone.
Fuck!
With a vengeance, he zeroed in on the location of the noise. He marched to his laundry basket by the bedroom door and began tearing through the clothes to find the stupid phone, no doubt still inside his paint-spattered coveralls where he’d dropped it not fifty-three minutes ago before he’d finally managed to crawl into bed.
Palming the device, he glared at the caller ID. John. Of course. Who else would call in the middle of the fucking night?
“What?” he shouted as he connected the call.
“Come get him.” A deep masculine voice with a Spanish accent had him pulling the phone from his ear to look down at the screen in confusion.
Wait. Great. Even fucking better—John’s dealer.
“No,” he said firmly as he stood tall and fisted his free hand at his side. His chest bowed in defiance as if the guy on the other end of the phone were right there in his darkened bedroom. “You give him that shit, you deal with him.”
The harsh laugh on the other end of the line held what might have been genuine amusement. “I deal with him and it won’t end well.” The line went dead. Kellus shoved his fingers through his hair to help push the long strands out of his eyes.
“Fuck!” he bellowed to the empty room, spinning in a complete circle, gripping his phone in his hand and punching his fist through the air. Thank God he was alone, because if anybody had witnessed that little outburst he’d have been carted off to the nearest mental facility. He was just so fucking sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Breath heaving as anger and dread coursed through his veins, Kellus stood there, staring absently at his bed. The fatigue of the day settled heavy on his shoulders. He had responsibilities. He couldn’t take on more of John’s bullshit. He jammed the heels of his palms against his tired eyes and released an exhausted sigh. After so many hours holding a brush for the fine details of his painting, his hands cramped with the movement, and the muscles in his neck and back protested the long hours he’d put in today. He needed sleep. More than the fifty-three minutes he’d gotten.
“I’m not fucking doing this again. I warned him the last time. I made it clear. No more!” Kellus sliced the hand still holding his cell through the air with finality. With that decision made, he stalked across the room and tossed his phone on the nightstand. He climbed back in his bed, whipping the covers over his exhausted body.
He hadn’t heard from John in six days.
Six glorious, productive, happy days.
Staring up at the ceiling, unable to get his mind to shut off, he told himself he’d made the right decision. John needed to stay away. Kellus forced his eyelids closed. At this point, he’d still get a few good hours sleep before he had to start his day. The longer he lay there, the more guilt crept in.
It always did.
Images of his best friend came to mind. Happier times. Memories of his and John’s younger days and all the trouble they’d managed to get into. Those thoughts actually calmed his breathing. His mind drifted to the summer of their senior year. He hadn’t thought about that time in so long. He and John had gone to the lake with some friends. A healthy, glowing, handsome John had teased him unmercifully until he had finally agreed to skinny dip…
“Fuck!” Kellus whipped off the covers and rose, angry and worried.
He couldn’t leave John in that place.
Kellus stopped dead center in his bedroom, fuming; he was so pissed at himself, at his own indecision, at John. What the fuck was wrong with him? John had destroyed both their lives, shit on him over and over with absolutely no regard for his feelings whatsoever. He’d lost everything because of John. He swore he’d never do this again.
But he couldn’t leave John there.
Not there.
Dejected, Kellus ran a frustrated hand over his face, sighed, then went for his closet to dress.
~~~
Topping out at max speed, Arik Layne flew down the Dallas North Tollway. Being the only one on the highway might have been the only benefit of flying home in the middle of the night from his Escape Del Mar property.
God, he was past exhausted.
Less than five minutes later, Arik parked and wearily made his way through the private entrance of his downtown Dallas high-rise, shrugging out of his hand-tailored suit jacket before he reached the elevator. At the elevator, he tossed the garment over his arm and entered his exclusive security code into the wall-mounted keypad, effectively locking the car for his personal use. The doors opened immediately. The technology didn’t require him to do anything more than step inside before the doors closed and the overhead floor-indicator light displayed each passing floor, a soft ding sounding repeatedly as he traveled non-stop up the forty or so floors to his penthouse. Arik rested against the back wall, forcing a finger into the knot of his necktie to loosen its tight hold. He then removed each cuff link at his wrist and absently dropped them into his slacks pockets. The more he removed now, the faster he could hit his perfect Vera Wang mattress and shut his tired eyes.
The entire building was quiet. Another benefit to relocating to this area. Well, sort of. Dallas as a whole was quieter than any place he’d ever lived. He walked the few steps to his front door, pulling out his wallet to wave in front of the security pad when the doors didn’t unlock at his arrival. Strangely, the key card inside his wallet didn’t trigger the lock to release. Arik let out a yawn as he entered his code into the attached keypad. He’d have to remember to check his card in the morning.
The overhead lights automatically lit as he entered his front door, and the motion sensors continued lighting his way the deeper he ventured inside his home. Arik absently tossed his suit jacket on a chair in the living room, never straying from the direct path to his bedroom. He pulled his shirttails from his slacks, his level of sheer exhaustion rising with each step he took. Honestly, that had to be the only reason he didn’t register the glow of lights coming from underneath the closed door until he’d already turned the handle.
“What the fuck?” His heart almost leaped out of his chest when he stepped inside his bedroom to find someone sprawled across his bed in what probably qualified as a seductive pose. Recognition took another second to seep in.
“Surprise!” A small pop sounded and confetti flew into the air, scattering across his bed.
Arik’s brows snapped together. Oh hell no. He loved that bed.
“What the hell are you doing?” Arik asked as he moved farther inside the room. He registered the slight look of indignation and the flip of that long, black, silky hair before Boy Toy’s face morphed again into a pleasant smile.
“I came to surprise you.” BT wiggled his sexy ass and gave a cheeky little smile.
Even as tired and annoyed as he was, Arik experienced a stir below his belt. He was human after all, and this particular BT was especially skilled. He stopped at his dresser, reached inside his front slacks pockets and casually tossed the contents on the small tray. He didn’t like surprises of any kind, and BT, short for boy toy number one hundred and—hell, he’d lost count of the willing men he’d bedded—had just shocked the hell out of him.
This one was way too pretty and so deliciously tempting that for a split second he almost gave in…almost.
No, he had to stay firm. This was utter bullshit. He couldn’t have random BTs breaking into his home, surprising him at every turn, desecrating his perfect bed with confetti.
“How did you get in here?” he asked, leaning against the dresser, casually crossing his arms over his chest.
“I’ve been planning this since you left me last week. I swiped your card from your wallet when you were in the shower.” Boy Toy lost the erotic pose, probably too much strain for his delicate body.
“I guess I need to keep a closer eye on my wallet in the future.” Arik shoved away from the dresser and headed toward his closet.
“I’m beginning to think you’re not happy that I’m here. You know I’d look good on your arm for the opening of Escape Dallas.” BT hopped up from the bed and trailed after him, following him into the closet.
“Are these your things?” he asked, nodding toward the garment bag hanging in his closet with luggage settled beneath. Arik’s things had been pushed aside and replaced with BT’s, as if the guy planned to stay awhile. First the bed, now the closet. He didn’t allow anyone to breach his private space. That crossed every line he had.
Fuck, he’d known when he first saw this guy he’d be trouble. The gorgeous ones always were. Arik shook his head.
“Yes, I put them next to yours. I arrived late and didn’t have time to unpack.”
Arik abandoned his silk tie on the built-in dresser and began to grab BT’s things. The level of pissed off coursing through him now superseded any desire he might have mustered.
“You can’t ever do this again. I told you from the beginning,” Arik said, shoving the garment bag toward BT as he went for the two suitcases, then he tossed the strap of one over his shoulder and grabbed the other by the handgrip. How long had he even planned to stay that he needed all this?
“Be careful with that. It’s got my mink inside!” BT carefully draped the bag over his arm, allowing Arik to take him by his other arm and forcefully guide him from the closet.
“Why in the hell would you bring a fur coat to Texas?” Arik kept his grip tight, even when BT tried to worm his way out.
“Why would I leave home without… What are you doing?” BT actually held on to the doorframe to keep Arik from removing him from the bedroom.
“You’re going to the guest room, BT. We’ll talk—”
A solid outraged screech cut him off.
“Stop calling me that! I hate that. I have a name.” The guy went into full-on diva mode right there in the middle of his hall.
“You’ve known the deal from the beginning. I don’t like these kinds of surprises. I was very clear,” Arik said. When he realized it might take two hands to deposit BT into the guest bedroom, he went for that door, pushed it open wide, and tossed the suitcase in his hand across the room. For a second there, he’d thought the guy planned to go back to Arik’s bedroom which would have turned things pretty shitty real quick. Luckily, BT came toward him with a very calm, patient look on his face.
“If you would just go with it, we could have a very special relationship,” BT said, placing a delicate hand on Arik's dress shirt, letting his fingers trail down Arik’s chest as he took a step closer. “I’m good at attending events with you. I look good on your arm. Besides, I’m tired of modeling. It takes up so much of my time. And if we came to some sort of arrangement, with all my extra free time, I could take care of you any way you saw fit.”
“Not gonna happen.”
BT’s words couldn’t have been better deterrent for giving in and indulging in a quick hook-up. Arik preferred his fun with no strings attached. Not that he had anything against the whole finding Mr. Right concept. But the boy toy currently groping his ass was not anywhere close to his idea of relationship material. Arik stopped the hand at his waistband and shrugged the case off his shoulder, dumping it right inside the guest bedroom door. He left the gorgeous but clearly crazy man standing there as he headed back toward his bedroom.
“I need to leave here by eight in the morning. Be ready.’’
“Seriously? You’re just leaving? I stretched myself to be ready for you.”
Arik looked back to see BT stomp his foot for good measure, his now flaccid dick swinging in the process. BT was certainly beautifully put together, tall, lean, chiseled abs, a perfect body that Arik knew from past experience could bring a lot of pleasure.
No, Arik. That was how he’d gotten in this situation in the first place. Stop. No. Walk away.
“Goodnight, BT. Don’t come back to my room,” he said at the door.
“Stop calling me BT! I’m not just your boy toy! My name is Steffan.”
Steffan—yeah, he remembered that now. Steffan twirled around and stalked into the guest bedroom, that long hair floating out around him. The door slammed shut in his wake.
Arik closed his door and reached down to twist the lock when he heard something crashing against the guest room door. Arik chuckled at that one and quickly opened his door again.
“Be ready by eight in the morning. I won’t be happy if you make me late,” he yelled before closing and relocking the door.
He staggered to the bed. His bed. Even with taking the time to rid the bedspread of the confetti and change the pillowcases where that overly strong cologne lingered, he’d still, hopefully, get at least a couple hours’ sleep.
I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it's true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women's hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life - I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations - regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal... I don't want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I'm going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I'll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died - weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn't have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It's everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness - it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn't a time she wasn't there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It's its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn't be here today without her.
âWho would do this?â she wailed.
Bed linens, scooped from the bed, were piled in a heap on the floor. The mattress ruined by a large X from corner to corner, looked naked and raw. A bedside lamp had been smashed against the wall. A gaping hole in the drywall sprouted pink insulation.
âMiss Lind. Do you have any enemies? This appears to be a threat or a message rather than a burglary. Can you identify anything taken?â
âMy pearls?â
James stepped away. She raced to her dresser, her heart thudding faster than racecar pistons, she yanked on the top dresser drawer. A moment of hope shot through her as she reached for the dark blue velvet box.
The string of perfectly matched, white pearls were gone. Her wedding would be incomplete without that special something old. The thief had robbed her unborn child of a precious family heirloom. âOh, God.â
So when a woman is brutally murdered, decapitated, and put on display like a snowman in front of an elementary school, there's no other choice on who can handle it. This kind of case requires someone willing to break the rules, someone who'll go the extra mile. It requires someone cocky, someone confident. A loose cannon. Because only someone whose life is a boiling hot mess of sex, liquor, and violence will be willing to do what it takes to hunt this killer down. Sometimes it takes a man straddling the line between sane and crazy to catch a psycho.
