your parents and of the times. The Civil War swoops into the heart of the South, taking husbands,
beaus, and hope. No one dreams of being a widow, or of harbouring a fugitive, but Savannah never
was one to follow rules.
There should be shame in falling in love with a Yankee, the very symbol of how she lost her husband
and how the South has been disrupted and destroyed, but the heart is free despite being caught in a
cage. Love is as cruel as it is kind. Suffering two swift losses, husband and then Jed, Savannah lives
with the only thing left; hope.
Savannah hopes she can find him again, hopes he can find her, despite the carnage of war, despite
the desecration of law and order. A rebel never surrenders, and neither does Savannah.

The music changed to something fast. Way too fast. The dancer in me watched the feet of the couples who obviously knew what they were doing. Two forward steps, two back, and then one, one, merengue. Okay, got it.
Quinnâs hand rested comfortably against my lower back, his fingers spreading wide enough to graze the top of my behind and hit the open back of my dress. Shivers trickled over my skin despite my sharp focus on the dance floor.
âYou ready?â Quinnâs hot breath against my ear melted my insides. That was it. I was pure mush for this guy I hardly knew. Might as well enjoy it.
âAre you a good dancer?â I lifted my cheek toward his lips so that he could see the side of my face. A wave of boldness ripped over my bones. I was young. Single. Quinn was gorgeous, smart, and savvy. We could have a lot of fun together.
âSo Iâve been told.â His lips brushed my face as he repeated the same words Iâd heard in the garden.
With a smile and a new-found sense of confidence, I channeled my inner-Cass and pulled Quinn onto the dance floor. I heard him laughing behind me as we weaved in and out of the gyrating bodies. In just a few strides, Quinn had wrapped both hands around my hips, guiding us to an empty spot. If I was being honest with myself, I may have pushed back against him a little more than necessary, enjoying the hardness of his abs and the slightly possessive way he held on to me.
Once we found a space large enough for the two of us, I turned and wrapped my arms over his shoulders. His height required me to reach higher than I would have normally been able to, so I was extremely grateful for the high heels.
âLetâs do this,â Quinn said. With a quick snap of his hands, he yanked me even closer to him and began moving his hips. I stared into his eyes, feeling lost in an ocean of teals and turquoise. The beat soared through me, my hips lining up perfectly with his as we swayed.
At first, we didnât move our feet, just enjoyed the feeling of each otherâs bodies against each other. Quinn leaned forward far enough to rest his forehead against mine, neither of us taking our eyes off each other. The move was soâ¦intimate, so personal, I couldnât believe I hadnât pulled away yet. Perhaps it was from the two shots of tequila and half a vodka martini. Or maybe it was because Quinn had this instant ability to make me feel safe and secure when Iâd always experienced fear before.
As the beat got louder and the music began to ramp up for the final chorus, Quinn smiled down at me. âOkay, letâs go.â
Without another warning, he pulled me around the floor, blending with the rest of the couples. I worked on my foot placement, being careful to let him lead and not step on his feet at the same time. The music pulsed around me like a veil, blocking out all of my insecurities and allowing me to get lost in the moment. In no time at all, we were laughing and smiling and rubbing against each other in a way that might even make Cass blush.

He is going to leave me soaked and loathing.
My dress, now around my ankles, appears to rustle in agreement.

“What do I want? So many things love! Revenge. Your hate, ah to taste it on your pretty mouth!”
His bitter laugh cuts me open as he beckons with a black gloved finger.
My tongue slides over my lips.
“Drop to your knees and crawl backwards.” “What?” My voice wavers. I can barely breathe.
“Yes,” he smirks. “It would please a prick. I have a weakness for your exquisite ass Elena. It should enter the room first in its dealings with me. Always.” The hissing flame in his startling green eyes becoming an inferno.
“It’s dealings with you?” I whisper, horrified and aroused.

Approaching me, he slowly ran his warm hands up and down my arms, which only made me shiver again, but for a different reason. I closed my eyes and planted my forehead into his chest. He was a fireplace in the zero degree air. Without questioning, I snuggled into his warmth.
“Your singing … it does something to me.” His arms rounded my back, criss-crossing low and tight. I took in his cologne and sighed. “Sage, what really happened last night?” “I don’t think you understand what being part of my life long-term means. It’s constant worry that the cancer is back and when it does come back it will affect everything. Relationships, schedules, and finances.” I cringed and lowered my voice, “And sex.” I gazed into his soft brown eyes, deep pools of care that made me waver when it came to him and me. I stepped back to get space and perspective. “Lots of things become secondary to fighting a monster that is unpredictable and merciless. I … I can’t…” I turned but he slipped his hands into mine, stopping me.

Fuzzy sock collector, martini connoisseur, baseball fanatic, and dandelion lover, author Jules Dixon is her own oxymoron. She’s addicted to everything related to the amazing emotion of love, probably instigated by her own happily ever after 25 years with her beer-brewing hubby and their love story created a sassy, artistic daughter and a computer genius but ultra-sarcastic son. She explores the rich psychology of sexuality, choices, and conflicts of high school, college, and young adult characters in her novels and novellas. She’s a busy writer, but she loves it.

Genre: Erotic Romance Standalone
Release Date: October 28, 2016
“State your name for the record.” They ask.
“I don’t know.” I never know.
Since the accident I’ve been a woman without a name, a home, a history. I have no memory of the woman I was before and it’s painful to think I could forget about myself. But I’ve decided I’ll find out who she should be. Stepping into the club I have no misgivings about what I’ll like and what I’ll find, but he wasn’t it. Tall, dangerous, hands that roam everywhere I need them to and a voice like silk. I don’t want to see his face, I want him to be a mystery like I am.
One night is all I’ll need to feel, to be caressed and revered, then I can go back to being no one in the crowd.
Fate had a different plan.
I am a fighter. I fight for what I believe in and I fight for the people I care about, but I’ve never been the guy fighting for the girl, they fall at my feet. My club is swimming with sex, women and able bodies to take to my bed, but I don’t. Find your relief, enjoy them and set them loose — anything more and your head gets twisted up. That was my rule.
When she stepped through the door I knew I wanted her, I wanted to taste her and feel her soft body up against mine. I had to touch her. I had to see the colour rise in her cheeks. Did I know it would become more?
Maybe I should have stayed away.
With an avaricious appetite for stories, Kerri Ann can be found quite often with her nose in a book or writing it. On many occasion it has been said that she's in her own world, living in the stories of those she reads about, giving them a life they deserve.
She can easily be found under a tree in the shade, or reclining at Starbucks scribbling notes about new stories and new characters, all while keeping the coffee chain in business.
Whether late at night, at a music festival, or sitting on a ski lift, when the thoughts arise, Kerri Ann will add them to those in progress. So be wary, your antics could be in her next book.

Excerpt, book one: Uncertain:
"Carefully placing each foot, Valen skirted the hedges, stepping in and out of the little fairy gardens planted by tiny fingers that decorated most of the front yard. There were strings of long, silver Christmas tinsel around the mailbox and across the porch of the bright yellow house. When the wind blew, the little bits of metal refracted the light and made the place cheery and whimsical. At least, they once had.
Valen could smell death: the specific scent of rot and burst intestines that sent cadaver dogs into a frenzy. It leaked from the house like the waft of blossoms from a gardenia tree. It hung in the air for anyone to recognize. Not that many would come here without purpose. There wasn't much traffic down the small country dirt road marked Wilder Way. Prairie weeds flowered in waving fields for miles in most directions. Jackson, Ohio was a small town with only three day cares.
Two now, Valen winced at the correction."

While Blythe is in the back room having her dress fitted to her measurements, Iâm enjoying my second glass of wine when the front doors burst open, and a man strides in. Heâs dressed in an immaculately tailored suit that canât hide a broad chest and slim waist, his long strides emphasizing muscled thighs and long legs. Heâs like a Greek god with dark hair and piercing steel blue-gray eyes, a strong jaw and full lips, and the way he moves reminds me of a panther, smooth and stealthy. â¨The wine has probably made me act bolder than I usually am, though when his gaze sweeps across the room and our eyes meet, my confidence falters. I look down into my glass, suddenly wishing Iâm invisible, not that it helps, for heâs seen me and now heâs striding purposefully towards me.â¨One of the employees, a young woman with a pixie hair cut that reminds me of Twiggy, meets him halfway. âMay I help you, sir?â
âIâm here to speak to her,â he says, pointing his finger at me. I look up at him, startled. Me?
Do I know him? I struggle to remember if Iâve seen him before, maybe someone Blythe introduced me to sometime between my arrival and right now, but I come up empty.
âIâm sorry, sir, but weâre in the middle of a private event, and Iâll have to ask you to leave,â the young woman says, and just like that, I swear the temperature in the room turns cold as his gaze sweeps along the length of her.
âObviously youâre new. Do you know who I am?â Before she can answer, Alicia appears next to her, smiling sweetly.
âMister Kheiron! I didnât expect to see you here today.â
âAlicia, how are you?â
âIâm well, thank you for asking. I sincerely apologize for this young ladyâs manners. Amelie is new, you see, and isnât yet familiar with our regular clients. In fact, Blythe recommended her, âAlicia says, before turning to face the young woman, whoâs just turned white as sheet. â
âShouldnât you be stocking inventory?â
As Amelie scurries to the back room, the man walks past Alicia and continues to make his way towards me. I set my wine glass on the coffee table and stand up. Based on mean he is, this must be the infamous Heath Kheiron. Then I wonder if weâve overcharged the Gold Card by mistake. â¨As he stops in front of me, I smell his cologne and my nostrils flare, the hairs at the back of my arms standing on end. Even my belly tightens. Citrusy with a hint of spice.
âWhere is he?â he asks, his voice cold and deep.â¨I glance around, as if confirming that he is talking to me.
âWho?â
âDonât âwhoâ me,â he says through gritted teeth as he draws closer.
âWhere is Ethan?â
âI donât know,â I stammer, confused and not understanding his anger.
âWeâre meeting him for dinner-â
âWhen you see him, tell him to call me,â he says just as the realization hits me.
He thinks Iâm Blythe!â¨âNo, wait! Youâre wrong! Iâm not Blythe! Iâm-â
âYeah, right,â he scoffs, grabbing my wrist, and this time his voice lowers as he addresses me.
âTell Ethan to give back what he stole, or Iâm making sure that everything will be taken away from him â his spending accounts, his access to company properties,â he pauses, lifting an eyebrow as he looks at me.
âEven you, Blythe.â⨠The way he looks at me makes me wither inside. Itâs cold and demoralizing, like heâs appraised me from behind his blue-gray eyes and I came up short.
âFor your information, mister,â I say as I yank my wrist away from him, âI am not a thing.ââ¨Heath eyes me, as if surprised that I actually can speak, and then he chuckles, as if I just said something funny.
âYouâre not a thing, is that it? Youâre not this thing for my brother to dress up and primp like some doll on display â like heâs doing now?â
He bites his lower lip, and shakes his head, as if heâs the one whoâs perplexed. But clearly, by the words that follow, heâs not. âItâs time to wake up and smell the roses, dear Blythe, because as far as Iâm concerned, thatâs exactly what you are to me â a thing. Now where is Ethan?â
This time, Iâm too shocked to say anything back, but Alicia comes to my rescue.â¨âI need you to leave, Mister Kheiron. This behavior is inexcusable.â
âDonât worry. Iâm done here, Alicia,â Heath says before turning his attention back to me.
âTell Ethan heâs got till tomorrow to explain himself, or heâs going to end up with a bigger problem in his hands â and I believe you know what Iâm talking about, Blythe. And tell him that once I notify the board of whatâs been happening, heâll have nothing to his name â nothing. Neither will you.â
âMister Kheiron!â Aliciaâs voice is shrill now and two men in dark suits seem to magically appear next to her.
âGood day, Alicia,â Heath says, nodding his head curtly, before turning to address me, the bow of his head mocking me.
âAnd you, too, Blythe. Enjoy your shopping spree.â⨠I canât even say anything back at him, not when the way he looks at me decimates me into someone who clearly is not worth anything in his eyes. I feel Aliciaâs hand rest on my arm as Heath turns away and walks out of the store. â¨âIâm so sorry, dear,â Alicia says.
âAre you alright?ââ¨I nod.
âI guess when tycoons have a bad day, they really do have a bad day, donât they?â

ARYAN
He was wide awake and on his feet before he knew why. The interior of the barn was warm and humid from the exhalations of the five men and cattle, yet he knew what had awoken him lay outside.
âWhat is it chief?â Bojan whispered.
âIâm not sure. Maybe nothing.â
Bojanâs lips turned down. âYou donât believe that.â
âNo. No I donât. Wake the others, quietly.â
Bojan snorted. âAnd Fen?â
âA swift kick up the ass and a hand over his mouth to staunch his yelp should suffice.â
The two men exchanged a conspiratorial look. Fen was, and always had been, a heavy sleeper. Aryan recalled a time they had dressed him in female robes and painted his face with rouge and kohl, all while he slept. The horror on his face when he had realized what they had done still brought a chuckle to his throat. Right now the chuckle was ominously absent. Fen, more than the rest of them, was struggling with what they had become, and Valeseaâs position as the source of all evil didnât aid him in coping. She was the woman Fen had loved.
Aryan strapped on his weapons belt, shrugged on his furs, and moved on stealthy feet toward the barn doors. The gaps in the planks that made up the entrance were wide enough to gain a good view of the outside.
He scanned the yard; the tall tree in the center standing majestically, its naked arms a dark map against the moonlit sky; the small farmhouse, silent and sleeping. It was strange, the darkness, the moonlight. It made everything seem so . . . peaceful. His brows met; maybe he had dreamt the disturbance. He made to turn away, preparing his apology to his tired men when a figure broke from the shadows surrounding the farmhouse and moved low and fast toward the barn. More shadows came to life, breaking away from the mass one by one and stealing across the open stretch of ground.
Aryan stepped back, reaching for his sword and grasping air. Crud! Heâd forgotten heâd lost his sword to a possessed tree.
âChief?â
Aryan looked up as Bojan drew his sword and handed it over. Aryan hesitated a moment but Bojan simply grinned, reaching over his shoulder to draw his mace.
Aryan matched his grin, taking the proffered sword. Around him the barn had come to life. His men were ready and if they went down they would do it fighting.
âHow many?â Fen asked rubbing his backside absently, all sleep chased away by the imminent threat.
âSeven, maybe more,â Aryan said.
âCrud!â
âWe can take them,â Cadoc said with a conviction that made Aryanâs chest swell with pride.
âGuru. Climb up to the loft and hide. Do not come out until one of us comes for you,â Bojan instructed.
Guruâs face had drained of color, yet he swallowed and held his ground. âGive me a weapon, I want to help.â
He was no coward this one, but his valor would serve no purpose in this fight. His slight body would be mere kindling to their attackers.
Aryan offered a smile to soften the rejection. âThank you friend, we respect your courage, but we need you alive if we are to find our destination.â
Guruâs jaw jutted in defiance. Aryan stared him down. Guruâs shoulders slumped and Aryan turned back to the doors knowing at least one battle had been won.
There was only one way in or out, no windows except the one high in the loft.
âBrace yourselves,â Aryan said.

Rock is the ripped, handsome Sergeant-At-Arms for the Insurgents MC. Being one of the club’s officers, women clamor to share his bed. The biker’s more than willing to oblige as long as it’s a short-time hookup; long-term relationship is not part of his vocabulary.
He’s only been in love once—a long time ago—and the end result was shattering. He learned his lesson: keep his heart encased in steel.
The tragic night that sent him to prison is over even though it still simmers inside him. But once he joined the Insurgents MC, he vowed to leave the past darkness and disappointments back in Louisiana. He’s embraced his new life of brotherhood, booze, easy women, and Harleys. It suits him just fine. Some things are best left alone, especially a pretty brunette who destroyed his heart.
Easy sex has become his mantra.
Until his past crashes into his life….
Clotille Boucher is the wealthy, spoiled girl who’d stolen Rock’s heart many years ago. From a young age, family loyalty was drilled into her, so when darkness engulfed her and Rock, fleeing seemed to be the only way out for her. Deciding to make a new life for herself, she didn’t count on having to pay for the sins of her brother.
Just when her life doesn’t seem like it could get worse, a face from her past gives her a glimmer of hope. Shamed that Rock has to see how far she’s fallen, she pretends her life is exactly what she wants, but his penetrating stare tells her he’s not buying her act.
Fearful that the secrets of the past will catch up with her and Rock, her inclination is to do what she does best—run away. Only problem is, Rock’s not letting her slip away so easily this time.
Can two damaged people learn to trust one another again? Will Rock be able to reconcile the demons that have plagued him since that tragic night? Does Clotille offer him redemption or destruction?
As Rock and Clotille maneuver the treacherous waters of their past and present, someone is lurking behind the shadows to make sure the truth never comes out.
Chiah Wilder is the author of Hawk’s Property, the first book in the Insurgents MC Series. It is a full length, standalone novel. Its release date is set for October 27, 2015.
Always a lover of books, she began writing at a young age and continued through college with collections of short stories. Figuring she had to grow up and get a “real” job, her writing was placed on the back burner.
Her love of reading has always be center front in her life. Chiah’s love of bad boys both in and out of fiction has inspired her Insurgents series. She loves an alpha male whose softer side is brought out by a passionate, spirited woman. In fiction there are no rules or boundaries, and fantasies can go as far as the characters want to take them. Steamy, biker romances with rough, sexy bad boys are her guilty pleasure along with brownies, cheddar cheese, and movie marathons.
Returning to writing has been a dream come true. Writing and publishing Hawk’s Property has been an amazing journey, and she is happy to share the Insurgents family with her readers. She is busy writing her next book in the series.

She shrugged. âThe writingâs good, but I didnât care for the characters.â
âWhy not?â
âThey felt one-dimensional. He comes across as a womanizing, self-indulgent fool.â
Nick arched his brow, his lips quirking into a grin. âHeâs got his faults, but I wouldnât describe him that way.â
âAs bad as he was, though, the heroine was even worse. She seemed stupid and fakeâ¦almost vapid. She was always getting herself into trouble and falling into hot water.â Encouraged by his amused smile, she continued, âAnd I refer to hot water in the literal sense. The one I read, the girl was suspended from the ceiling over a pot of boiling water until Max Montero swooped in at the last minute.â
âIt was acid, and he likes saving beautiful women from danger. Whatâs wrong with that?â
âShe could have saved herself, or better yet, not gotten into the situation. And heâ¦well, he could have been nicer to her in general.â
âNot every hero comes in a one-size-fits-all package, Shyla. Donât hold back, though. Tell me what you really think.â
âOkay, I will. I can appreciate a different kind of hero, but Iâd like one with a functioning set of scruples. In the scheme of things, these books donât deserve shelf space with the others. They definitely fall into the dime store drivel category.â
âOuch,â Nick said, pouring himself another drink. âI donât think you understand the concept of sarcasm.â
She opened and shut her mouth as the realization hit her. âYou were joking when you asked me to tell you what I really thought?â
âYeah, but donât worry about it.â
âSo, what do you do for a living?â she asked, anxious to change the subject. It was possible sheâd accidently insulted one of his favorite novelists.
âIâm an author.â
âHave you written anything I might have read?â
âThe dime store drivel youâre holding.â

“Sarah, look at me.”She did, and her breath caught at the intense look in his eyes. Title: Dragons Need Love, Too
Series: I Like Big Dragons Series #2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: October 19, 2016
Nikolai Vassago has a plan.
His day starts out fairly normal. Get up, kick some ass, fondle his beard, take some names.
One second he’s participating in a normal every day mission, and the next he’s saving the one woman that fate has promised him for the rest of his life from the grips of a criminal mastermind.
Nikolai can’t say he’s altogether displeased with what he’s given, though. Not with that gorgeous brunette that would soon be warming his bed.
The same can’t be said for Brooklyn.
Living in a commune most of her life meant she wasn’t exposed to all of life’s craziness. The moment she turned eighteen, she was off and running, experiencing all of what life had to give.
That means she sometimes jumps in feet first, not thinking about consequences until the deed is already done.
Nikolai rescues her from a fate worse than hell, throwing her on the back of his dragon and flying off into the night.
He’s a go-with-the-flow kind of man. Brooklyn, however, is not.
Having been caged for the first eighteen years of her life, she wants nothing more than to be free to do what she pleases, consequences be damned.
Nikolai, however, has different ideas, and he’s not above using his masculine will to prove to her that she’s exactly where she needs to be.
“This is an all action paranormal romance with lots of dangerous family drama. One family is over protective the other is full of dangerous killers. Add in dragon magic and hot sex , you get a book you can't put down.” ~Warrior Woman Winmill “...this series is just so different. It’s a breath of fresh air, and it draws the reader in right from the start. I can’t recommend this book and this new series from Ms. Vale highly enough.” ~Red Cheeks Reads “This book was witty, entertaining, serious, and funny all at the same time.” ~Swoon Worthy Books
I don’t know why I never expected Nikolai to be able to fight.
He had the muscles.
He worked out.
He was aware.
But he never struck me as fierce.
I wasn’t thinking that anymore, though, as I watched him beat the ever loving shit out of his opponent.
He never used a single one of his powers to accomplish it, either.
He did it all with sheer strength, force of will, and knowledge.
He was divine.
All we were supposed to be doing was buying some supplies for the house.
It’d been over two months since I’d woken from my coma, six weeks since he’d told me I was his mate and even longer since the housekeeper had stocked the kitchens.
I’d never been so happy to leave the confines of a house.
I would’ve been happy with going in a plain old car; but, today, Nikolai had taken me on a motorcycle, of all things.
I’d always wanted to ride on one but had never had the courage to ask for a ride.
Today, though, I’d practically begged Nikolai for us to take it.
He’d argued that a truck would hold more groceries, but I’d been adamant.
I didn’t even know why, either.
Just the thought of being in the open air, outside the confines of the sanctuary, turned me into a giggling mass of excitement.
And I was sure that nothing would ruin this day…but I’d been wrong.
Since I was now watching my man get ganged up on by five men.
My uncle’s cronies could ruin my day, as evidenced by the stupid goon trying to slash Nikolai’s face off with a fuckin’ saber sword.
I’d at first tried to help Nikolai, but his insistence that I back up and stay the hell out of it had been loud and clear, even when he hadn’t actually said any of those words out loud.
But he’d been awesome at screaming them inside my head like I was a disobeying three-year-old, rather than a twenty-six-year-old grown ass adult who knew how to wipe her own butt.
I watched with the brick wall of a convenience store at my back.
Nikolai’s bike was on its side where he’d dumped it.
My arm was scratched, and a strange throbbing sensation was going on with my ribs.
Funny enough, I hadn’t remembered ever hitting my ribs. Nikolai had been extremely careful about laying his bike down as we slid.
He’d also made me wear protective clothing, such as a brand new pair of motorcycle boots. A leather jacket with padding in the elbows and back, as well as a pair of pants that were supposedly flame proof.
I was glad he’d forced me to wear them now; but a scant hour before, as I’d been getting dressed, I’d been reluctant.
“Duck!” Nikolai screamed.
Then, I was seeing nothing but black. Everything around me was black.
“Nikolai!” I whispered frantically. “I can’t see!”
Strong arms, the arms that I was coming to care for in the short few days that we’d officially started to ‘date,’ wrapped around me.
“Shh,” he breathed, so low that I couldn’t be sure that he said anything at all.
Grab the bike, he whispered through my brain.
I moved my arms forward and grabbed on to the bike, feeling him shift as he got on. Then he pulled me on behind him and a loud roar sounded as he turned over the engine.
“Hold on,” he rushed.
I held on.
I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.
My whole life I’ve wanted nothing more than to fit in.
Only, my whole life I’ve done anything but.
That’s probably because I’m anything but average. After all—female serial killers seem to be a minority in today’s society.
And that’s ok—because I’ve longed for a change for quite some time now.
Which brings me back around to fitting in.
You know what one has to do to fit in?
I do.
One has to blend.
Which is great news!
Because I realize my clock is ticking, so to speak, and now I want a family. Luckily, I’ve always been good at getting what I want.
So I figure what better place to blend than suburbia?
All that stuff I did before—it’s water under the bridge now. I just hope it’s not too late to change my ways. Here’s to hoping for suburbia’s sake, too.
I mean, what are the odds I could be the girl next door?
Apparently, they’re better than you might think.
==============================
Your whole life you’ve wanted to fit in.
Only your whole life you’ve done anything but.
That’s probably because you’re anything but average— you’re a killer— but, then so am I.
You say you’ve longed for a change for quite some time now.
This is good because, well, me too.
Your clock is ticking, you want a family, but you waste so much time.
I know because I’m watching, waiting, blending.
What you don’t realize is if you want me, and I think you do, then you'll have to change your ways because sometimes hunters become hunted.
But what are the odds of that happening in suburbia?
Apparently, they’re better than you might think.
You told me by candlelight last night that your real name is not Ryan as it said on the dating site, as you said at dinner. It’s Jude. I wasn’t surprised. We all become someone different online. As you ran the tips of your fingers across my cheek, you promised you were sorry for lying, and then you showed me when you touched my scars with your lips. You asked for the truth about them, but I didn’t give it to you. You don’t get to be the only one who lies. Which is why I haven’t told you exactly who or what I am.
It isn’t time for whole truths about anything.
Speaking of names, it took a lot to pry Amy’s last name from your lips, and you see… you do still keep her close to your heart. You’re protecting her. This is how I know. It’s dangerous, Jude. She is dangerous, and you need closure, you really do. It’s too much to go around carrying the weight of her, believe me, I know. Morris was the answer you gave when you finally relented—but you lied. Your jaw did this twitchy thing, and that’s how I knew. We all have our tells, and apparently, that’s yours.
“No doubt, she’s married now,” you add, to cover your tracks, to conceal your lies, and you are still in denial, still protecting her, and it’s okay because, luckily, I know how to hunt people.
Later, I withdrew in your lies, and you sensed me pull away.
I started slowly at first, retreating into myself and then I left and didn’t speak to you for four days. You let me have my space, at first. I’ll give you that. But the thing you need to know about women is that it isn’t space we want, not really. We want a fight. We want a man willing to burn for us—someone willing to put it all on the line. We want to go to war.
I know you have it in you, I do. This is why I don’t return your calls. This is why I play hard to get when the truth is I miss you. I miss the way your arms feel around me, the way your eyes bore holes into my soul—all the ways you seem to know me even though you don’t. So on the fourth day, when you show up at my door, this is why I practically leap into your arms. You aren’t confused like most men would be. Not you. You come bearing gifts that aren’t flowers. You come bearing breakfast and plane tickets, and you are a warrior, Jude, you are.

The coiled body behind me tensed, ready to detonate. Whoever defended me could hold his own, but I could still take everybody out with one flick of the wrist. Chivalry felt warm and fuzzy but I learned a long time ago that one hundred and fifty volts felt electric and twitchy.
Turning my chin to the side, I whispered on an exhale, âItâs fine, Iâve got this.â
A low laugh against my neck curled my toes.
âYou so donât got this.â His chest rumbled as a strong hand ran skilled fingers around my hair. I tilted my chin, watching his eyes harden. âYouâre up my ass, shit-for-brains. Donât ever touch whatâs mine.â He shifted his lips against my ear. âRight, baby?â
One suitor tested my patience, but two pushed my limit. I opened my mouth to tell him off when he stole the moment and pressed his lips against mine. Resisting, I murmured veiled threats as he pulled me toward him. The impromptu kiss dissolved into failed waves of aggression, and I inexplicably responded to him. Before I knew it, Iâd wrapped my arms around his neck.
After a few heartbeats of kissing a complete stranger, I finally regained what dignity I had left, shoved his chest, and faced him with fire blazing in my eyes. He snickered and waved as my aggressor stalked off. Shooting him a death glare, I reached for my drink. After scanning for witnesses, I brought it to my lips and drained it.
âThirsty?â He smirked.
âWhat the hell was that?â
He snatched the drink out of my hands, giving me a wink before tipping it back for the last drop. âYou werenât exactly pushing me away. Besides, I just saved your ass. Heath Vaughn was inches from having a hand up that thing you call a dress.â
âI didnât ask for your help!â I bit back. âI donât even know who the hell youâwait, who?â
âSomebody had to step in or youâd have spent the night in jail with that concealed, illegal shit in your purse. Youâre telling me you didnât know that was Vaughn? Maybe because we havenât time-warped back to his 1995 five minutes of fame.â He walked past me with a smirk plastered across his face.
Struggling to catch up with him, I grabbed his shoulder in disbelief. âThatâs a joke, right?â
âAfraid not. Vaughn in the flesh, and apparently in the sauce too. Why do you care so much what he thinks?â He eyed me curiously, his jade-green eyes knocking me breathless.
Finally allowing myself a full look at him, I quickly averted my eyes before he could see my racing pulse reflected in them. Chaotic chocolate spiked hair pointed in every direction and hinted at a carefully constructed morning-after look. A small silver earring caught flashes of light in the darkness and tattoos decorated each uncovered arm.
Remembering to breathe became a chore.
âBecause Iâm screwed!â I shouted, frantically waving my phone. âMy boss is already pissed at me, and I was supposed to meet Vaughn here for an interview, andâwhy am I telling you this?â
âCalm down.â He grinned, revealing a deep dimple in his left cheek. âLook, the dudeâs so far tanked he wonât remember he was here, much less you were. Give me your phone.â
âIâm not giving you my phone. I donât even know you.â
Rolling his eyes, he snatched my phone out of my hands. âDidnât stop you from making out with me, did it?â He scanned the email Iâd been checking all night. Typing furiously, his lips curved upward and he handed it back. âAll fixed.â
âWhat did you do?â Thankfully, previous defense training taught me to never label emails with personal information. In the darkness, heâd never scroll back far enough to know my name.
âWhy must you question brilliance?â he countered with a sigh. âYou sent him an email concerned for his safety since he never showed for your interview. You waited but had to leave because you actually work for a living. Youâd love to reschedule since youâre such a huge fan and were disappointed at the missed opportunity to hear all about his crap-ass reality show, since I assume thatâs all he wouldâve wanted to talk about.â
I couldâve kissed himâif I hadnât already.
âYouâre an evil genius.â
âSo Iâve been told.â

âIâm not going to pretend that Iâm not interested in getting to know you better. I think, if you stay, youâll learn that I might have more to offer than that boyfriend of yours.â As difficult as it was, Iâd been trying very hard not to read her thoughts. For some reason, invading that part of her, when I felt it was perfectly acceptable for me to do it with anyone else, seemed wrong.
âIs that so?â Her eyelashes fluttered open as she looked up at me, revealing her beautiful blue eyes full ofâ¦desire?
âYes.â
âYou certainly are sure of yourself.â
âI have nothing to lose, Maggie.â
âNow itâs Maggie?â
âIâm sorry?â
âWell, I was just getting used to the way my real name sounds when you say it.â
âAh. Well, then, I will try to make a conscious effort to call you Magdalena.â
âYou are a temptation.â
âWhatever it takes, Mags.â
âNow youâre just being mean.â She laughed. âYour charm, or your lack of charm, whichever one you use, isnât going to make me stay.â
âDo you want to leave?â
âNot really. But I need to.â
I pressed my lips briefly against hers, just to see what would happen. As I guessed, she didnât resist. âYou do have a choice, Magdalena. Come.â I took her hand in mine. âOne more dance, then you can leave. And even though youâll be breaking my heart, Iâll even pay for your cab home.â
She followed me to the dance floor, and I took her in my arms. As I held her close, inhaling her intoxicating smell, she whispered in my ear. âCian, I wish I could stay. I really do.â
âShhh. No talk of leaving. Letâs just enjoy the moment we have together.â
When the song ended, I took Magdalenaâs hand and walked her through the hallway that led to the outside. It was dark and I couldnât resist one last shot at exploring her luscious body. I stopped and turned her to face me. I stepped closer, pinning her gently against the wall, and covered her lips with mine. This kiss was much different than the brief skimming Iâd allowed myself earlier.
This kiss held all the allure I wanted her to feel, along with the promise of what could be if she only allowed herself the pleasure.
The cleavage protruding from the top of her dress left me weak in the knees, and my lips found their way to that spot as if theyâd been possessed. I kissed the tops of her breasts, and she kissed my neck right below my ear. My fingers ached to touch the skin beneath her silver dress, and I moved to do just that. I found her thigh soft and silky. Almost as silky as the material she wore. My fingers inched up her thigh, massaging gently. I waited for her to stop me. I could have compelled her to let me do whatever I wanted to, but this woman was different. I wanted her to want it. To want me. When she didnât stop me, I skimmed my forefinger along the edge of her panties and slipped it between her thighs, finding her oh so gloriously wet. My gods, she was stunningly beautiful.
My cock stiffened, a prisoner locked behind a zipper of steel.
âCian,â she breathed against my neck, and I silenced her with my mouth, exploring every inch of hers, tasting, taking what she seemed so willing to give me as my finger teased the soft skin of her thigh just outside of her very wet undergarment. âI need to go.â The dreaded words flowed from her swollen lips like poison to my soul, and I had to fight the too-easy urge to compel her to stay.

âDo you miss the demon, Jazzmyn?â
âHeâs not a demon.â Jazzmyn carefully weighed her words. âDo you think â¦? I keep wondering if heâs all right.â
Ms. Helenâs unsettling sigh carried through the bedroom. âThat satyr man has crossed over. Heâs where heâs supposed to be.â
âIs he?â Jazzmyn questioningly raised her eyebrows.
âDo you know somethinâ I donât, child?â
Jazzmyn motioned to the newest daisy painted on the wall. âThat just appeared last night.â
Ms. Helen inspected the flower. âI thought you said you painted them daisies.â
âNo, thatâs what I told Kyle to keep him from asking too many questions. I canât paint. They just appeared.â Jazzmyn rubbed her hands together. âTheyâre a lot like the ones Julian put in Jackieâs bedroom at Fairview Plantation. If I didnât know better, Iâd say theyâre exactly like the ones he painted.â
Ms. Helen spun around. Her coffee-colored skin paled.
âThatâs not all. Last night, Kyle found Odetteâs painting hanging sideways on the mantle. This morning, the coffeemaker had been turned on and filled with coffee before either one of us got up.â
Ms. Helenâs brown eyes grew in size. âDo you think itâs the demon?â
âWho else could it be?â Jazzmyn gestured to the flower on the wall. âHe had a fondness for painting, loved coffee before he was cursed, and who else would turn Odetteâs picture on its side like that?â
âWhat youâre suggestinâ would mean heâs finding a way back to you.â
âBut when I came back from Fairview, you said he was trapped. How can he come back?â
âIâm not sure. Iâve never seen such a thing.â Ms. Helen knitted her brow. âYou told me he was the one who threw the pot on the fire, not you. And you never spoke the words banishing him.â
âYes, the curse was lifted, and he disappeared into a ball of green light after the pot exploded.â Jazzmyn tossed up a hand. âSo?â
âIf the ritual wasnât completed, that might allow him to move back and forth between this world and the place where heâs trapped,â Ms. Helen warned in a dark voice.
Jazzmyn shivered as if enveloped by an icy breeze. âWhich means he might be trying to get back to me.â She faced her daughter, sitting in her crib. âBack to Jackie.â
âJulianâs paid his debt to your family and to those he wronged, but you didnât force him out of your life, Jazzmyn. Julian sent himself away. That tie to you and his daughter may have left a door open somewhere.â
âWhat door?â
Ms. Helen waved her hand high in the air. âThe door that lies between this world and the next. A portal through which spirits can cross over.â
âBecause I didnât complete the ritual, heâs able to come back and forth through this door?â Jazzmyn gripped the railing of Jackieâs pink crib. âAre you sure about this?â
Ms. Helen put a reassuring her hand on Jazzmynâs shoulder. âHeâs bound to you and his daughter. Itâs those ties that probably kept him from crossing over completely.â
âIs Julian a ghost, haunting my house?â
âGhosts are dead people trapped on this earth, but your demon ainât dead. Far from it.â
Jazzmyn was overcome by a wave of dizziness as what Ms. Helen was proposing sunk in. âAre you saying heâs alive, physically, somewhere?â
âIf youâd performed the ritual like Ms. Evangeline instructed, your satyr man would have been sent to his rest. His physical body would have died. But you didnât perform the ritual, at least not all of it.â
Jazzmyn glared at the woman, dumbfounded. âYou never said anything about his being alive and trapped. I thought he was a spirit, and no longer living.â
Ms. Helen sighed and looked Jazzmyn up and down. âSo do you want to get rid of your satyr man for good?â
Jazzmyn said nothing but glanced down at her baby in the crib.
âWhat about your crazy chef?â Ms. Helen pressed. âKyle plans on marryinâ you in October. You got any idea what youâre gonna tell him?â
Jazzmyn sagged against the crib, unable to bear the weight of her emotions. âI donât know what I feel for either man right now.â
âYouâre gonna have to decide, Jazzmyn. Sooner than later, youâll have to let one man go.â

Title: Dragons Need Love, Too
Series: I Like Big Dragons Series #2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: October 19, 2016
